Also known as a barn dance, a ceilidh (pronounced ‘kay-lee’) is a form of social dance, but we like to think of a ceilidh as a bit of a party!

For those of you who saw the word ‘dance’ and are now reliving your most recent awkward encounter with a dance floor, don’t panic! Although a ceilidh involves dancing, each dance is taught step by step with clear instructions by a ‘caller’. This includes walking through the dance before the music begins, followed by continued guidance throughout the dance once the music starts.

Never been to a ceilidh before? No worries! No experience is necessary, and our callers are experts at selecting dances based on your experiences and capabilities. There is no requirement to get any dance 100% perfect and the most fun is often had when the dance doesn’t go quite to plan.

What about the music? Well, that's where we come in! Ceilidh is danced to lively folk music (and the occasional waltz) with a driving rhythm that is designed to get you up and moving. Each tune is selected based on the type and style of dance. With over three decades of combined experience, Dodging Pheasants play a wide variety of ceilidh tunes originating from all over the UK and beyond that range from grooving reels (for the ultimate head bob) to bouncy jigs (pogo anyone?). Find out more about our music and musicians on our About the Band webpage.

A perfect ice-breaker or mixer at almost any event, a ceilidh is a huge amount of fun, highly sociable, and sure to have everyone smiling!
